  • Shaktikanta Das (born 26 February 1957) is a retired 1980 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Tamil Nadu cadre.
  • He is the 25th governor of the Reserve Bank of India and was the first member of the Fifteenth Finance Commission of India, and India's Sherpa to G20 During his career as an IAS officer, he served in various capacities for Indian and Tamil Nadu governments, including as Economic Affairs Secretary of India, Revenue Secretary of India, Fertilizers Secretary of India. 
  • On 11 December 2018, he was appointed as the 25th Governor of the Reserve Bank of India.

  • Shaktikanta Das is a postgraduate (MA) in history from a Bachelor (BA) and St. Stephen's College, Delhi.

  1. In a declaration this evening, the government said that veteran bureaucrat Shaktikant Das will take charge of the Reserve Bank of India for a period of three years as the 25th Governor.
  2. An official statement said, "Appointment Committee of Cabinet has approved appointment of Shri Shaktikant Das, IAS Retired, Former Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, Governor, Reserve Bank of India for a period of three years."
The appointment follows the Surprise resignation of Urjit Patel on December 10. Patel, on many issues, decided to take immediate action, referring to "personal reasons" between a stand-off with the government.
